Good evening, family. I hope you are all doing something positive with your weekend. For the past week, I have been engaged in some of the most engaging conversations with highly intelligent and highly motivated individuals that I have ever come across. (shout to my brothers @iluvblackwomen and @GoodFathersOnly and everyone that listened to "DaddyTalk" this past Wednesday). I'm of the perception that black people DON'T WANT to change. The question I keep asking myself is ,"Why not?" Is it because we have been so inundated with negative imagery that its all we know? Is it that we have just accepted our circumstances and decided that's all we will ever be? or are we just TIRED? We are all to blame. (Yes, I said it) You see, there was a time in black history that we believed in the family.
What happened? No longer do we sit down to dinner with our entire family and have conversations about your day, what's going on in school and what you were doing this weekend as a family (besides sitting in front of the TV watching football on Saturdays or Sundays.) If it's good enough for the President of the United States, it should be good enough for you as well. I know some of you are saying,"Well, I work and I can't afford to sit down with my kids and eat every night. I'm a single parent, I've got to work" I completely understand that and I say try to at least organize and prioritize at least two days a week for your children to have a dinner, a night without TV, or sit down to talk. Trust me, it helps foster positivity in your kids and shows them that you actually care about their academic pursuits (other than when report cards come out). We must begin to start moving forward. We must begin to again asking and answering the tough questions.(besides when is Drake's album coming out?) We all have a responsibility, not only to each other but to future generations as well. Be MORE. Stop settling. We were not put on planet to be "passive observers", We were placed here to affect change!! The election of Barack Hussein Obama was ONLY STEP 1! We have got A LOT MORE work to do STILL! like I've said in previous posts....It wasn't over when Pres. Obama took the Oath of Office, "The battle for legitimacy" continues every time Glenn Beck, Michelle Malkin, and the rest of the "so-called Fair and Balanced" media over at Fox News ,speak half truths in an effort to "muddy the waters" and confuse the heck out of people with their opinions and stupidity! People of Color, stop taking what they give you as the "gospel truth" and start reading, talking to your children, and start making an effort to be better than you were the day previous. "Don't be like a lamb led to slaughter. Be like Hannibal, crossing the Alps" and attack your dreams and goals with the same vigor that you will look for the next Gucci Mane album, or rocking that "Free Lil Wayne" tshirt. The time to stand up is NOW! A salam alaikum. People of color, "GROW A SPINE!"
