Monica truly is a Diamond in the rough when it comes to posing in front of the camera. The wordplay was irresistible as the gem is her last name. But even the initial description is an understatement since she comes off as so sophisticated. Her underlying qualities must be brought to surface whereas her exterior is flawless.
Being an ethnic mix of African-American and Native Indian descent, she appears stunning at first glance. Some may be inclined to a false assumption regarding her demeanor due to her vivacious radiance. However, this woman is far from prissy. Rather, she is very easy-going and down-to-earth. She gave DTM the run-down on her life’s manifesto.
What particularly stood out was her strong interest for sports, which paved the way for some of her success today. Taking up basketball was subsequential for this former track sprinter. It was at Auburn University in Montgomery that she attended on a full scholarship playing as a small forward/shooting guard. As far as academics, she majored in early childhood. In addition, the foretelling of her extensive travel throughout parts of Europe (Czech Republic) and Iceland while donning basketball jersey #32 was ironically
reminiscent of Monica Wright (a fictitious role played by Sanaa Lathan) in Love & Basketball. But, perhaps, we’ve just reviewed too many movies.
Now, as a kindergarten teacher, she would like be known for more than her academics and past athleticism. That’s where modeling comes in. Before fully embracing this new recreation, she did try out for the women’s Atlanta basketball team. Unfortunately, the attempt resulted in the injury of a pulled hamstring. Still, she has no major qualms about it as she is adamant about settling in Georgia. So “laid-back” is accurately fitting for Monica’s characteristic label: One who would opt to stay at home eating New York-style pizza topped with extra cheese while watching scary movies rather than a randomized outing. Otherwise, she may be found bumping some Reggae. It’s her favorite genre of music. Sean Paul, Beenie Man, and Shaggy are among the top artists she listens to. Consequently, when I asked her where is a place she would like to visit for the first time, I expected her to stay an exotic location in the Caribbean. Instead, she mentioned France. But this answer was clarified when she elaborated on her admiration for the language. To this day she is making a gradual effort to become fluent in it.
Besides working as a teacher, Monica is also working on her Master’s degree in Science Management. This was also strange because we expected to hear education. But at some point, she says she will be ready to retire from a career managing children all day – especially since she expressed in having three of her own and even considering to adopt once settled. A future such as this in no way seems out of touch for Monica. She has already set a string of objectives and knocked it one out the ball park. Of course, she credits her parents for her peak performance when stating they told her she could accomplish anything, provided she put her mind to it.
